# Publish checklist

> The last pass before your deck goes live.

## What & why

Publishing is a deliberate click — nothing goes public on its own, so the deck goes
out exactly as you leave it. This is the short pass that catches the things learners
notice and you stopped seeing hours ago: a typo, a card that made sense only in your
head, an image you never sourced.

## The rule

> Before you publish, **study your own deck end-to-end once**, as a learner would.

It's the step everyone skips and the one that catches the most. Reviewing your deck as
a learner — reading each front, answering it, checking the back — surfaces the
ambiguous prompts, the two-fact cards, and the answers you can't actually grade. If a
card trips _you_ up, it will trip up every learner who comes after.

## The checklist

Run through these before that final click:

- **Cards proofread.** No typos, and every answer is correct.
- **One fact per card.** No answer with an "and" hiding two things in it. See
  [One card, one fact](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/deck-craft/one-fact/).
- **Fronts ask, don't display.** Each front is a question, not a heading. See
  [Ask, don't display](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/deck-craft/ask-dont-display/).
- **Every media source recorded.** You know where each image and clip came from and
that you can share it. See [Media & licensing](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/building/media-and-licensing/).
- **Title & description pass the quality bar.** They say who the deck is for and what
the learner will recall. See [Title & description](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/building/title-and-description/).
- **Language & category set correctly**, so learners can find it.
- **Studied end-to-end once** — the rule above.

## When it applies

Before the first publish, and again before any update that changes cards. Republishing
a deck reaches everyone who studies it, so give an edited deck the same quick pass you
gave the original.
