# Editor tour

> From a blank deck to published, step by step.

## What & why

You build decks in Deckberry's **web editor** — no app needed. The flow is short:
create the deck, fill in its details, add cards, preview it as a learner, and publish.
Nothing is public until you say so, so you can take your time and come back later.

## 1. Create the deck

Start a new deck and give it a title. A new deck is **private** — that's your draft.
It stays private, visible only to you, until you deliberately publish it. There's no
separate "draft" status to manage: private _is_ draft.

## 2. Fill in the details

Set the deck's **title**, **description**, **language**, and **category**. These decide
who finds your deck and whether they choose to study it, so treat them as part of the
deck's quality — see [title & description](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/building/title-and-description/)
and [language & category](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/building/language-and-category/). You can edit
them any time.

## 3. Add cards

Add cards one at a time. For each, pick a **type** — start with
[Basic](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/card-types/basic/) unless the material calls for
[Cloze](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/card-types/cloze/),
[Rich Media](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/card-types/rich-media/),
[Reverse](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/card-types/reverse/), or
[Multiple Choice](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/card-types/multiple-choice/) — and fill in its fields. As you
type, a **live preview** shows the card exactly as a learner will see it, so you catch
a stray placeholder or a too-long answer before it ships. Cards are listed in order;
you can reorder and edit them as you go.

Editing a published card creates a new version with a short **changelog** note, so
learners can keep studying while your improvements roll out safely.

## 4. Preview as a learner

Before publishing, use **Preview deck** to step through your deck the way a learner
will — one card at a time, flip to check the answer. This is the single best way to
catch the problems you stopped seeing while writing: the two-fact card, the ambiguous
front, the answer you can't grade.

## 5. Publish

When you're happy, press **Publish** — it flips the deck from private to public and it
appears for learners in the app. Run the quick
[publish checklist](https://www.deckberry.com/creators/guide/workflow/publish-checklist/) first. Publishing is
always a deliberate click; nothing goes live on its own, and you can update the deck
later the same way.
